Welcome to All Souls at Home

The power of God— unlike worldly power, which we love— is made perfect in weakness.

"Magnificat"

My soul magnifies the Lord
My spirit rejoices in God
My soul magnifies the Lord, my Savior

For he has done great things
For he has done great things for me (x2)

O Lord, how manifold are your works!
In wisdom have you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.
These all look to you, to give them their food in due season.
When you give it to them, they gather it up;
when you open your hand, they are filled with good things.
When you hide your face, they are dismayed;
when you take away their breath, they die and return to their dust.

When you send forth your Spirit, they are created,
and you renew the face of the ground.

May the glory of the Lord endure forever; may the Lord rejoice in his works,
who looks on the earth and it trembles, who touches the mountains and they smoke!
I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have being.

May my meditation be pleasing to him, for I rejoice in the Lord. (Psalm 104:24, 27-34)

Come, Holy Ghost, Creator blest,
And in our hearts take up Thy rest;
Come with thy grace and heav'nly aid
to fill our hearts which thou hast made (x2)

O Comforter, to thee we cry,
Thou heav'nly gift of God most high;
Thou fount of life, and fire of love,
And sweet anointing from above (x2)

chorus:

Be not afraid;
where you go,
there I am with you

(x2)

Praise we the Lord, Father and Son,
And Holy Spirit with them one;
And may the Son on us bestow
all gifts that from the Spirit flow

chorus

Acts 2:1-21 (esv)

The Holy Spirit is the one who works in our hearts and minds to reveal God’s truth and promises, captured in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Let’s pray together:

Gracious God, we approach your throne as sinners in need of mercy.

We acknowledge that in us there is darkness, but with you there is light.
We are stubborn and disobedient, but you never leave us.
Our hearts are riddled with sin, but yet you never turn away from us.
We are restless, but with you there is peace.
We are filled with bitterness, but with you there is patience.
Your ways are beyond our understanding, but you know the way for us.

Forgive and renew us through the finished work of Jesus Christ.

Take a moment now to acknowledge these things silently before the Lord, knowing forgiveness and rest are freely available in Jesus.

The Holy Spirit works to continuously show us that Jesus’s life, death, and resurrection accomplished the reconciling work that we could never accomplish. (1 Peter 1:21-22)

Through Christ you have come to trust in God. And you have placed your faith and hope in God because he raised Christ from the dead and gave him great glory. You were cleansed from your sins when you obeyed the truth, so now you must show sincere love to each other as brothers and sisters. Love each other deeply with all your heart.

Know that you are forgiven, and be at peace. Thanks be to God.

All Souls Kids is taking a break this week and will be back next Sunday! In the meantime, feel free to play back one of our previous weeks' videos.

John 14:15-21, 25-27 (esv)

Let us pray for God to fill us with his Spirit, saying:
Lord, bless us and fill us with your Spirit.

We thank you for the power of your Holy Spirit.
We ask that we may be strengthened to serve you better.

(pray silently)

Lord, embolden us and fill us with your Spirit.

We thank you for the wisdom of your Holy Spirit.
We ask you to help us understand better your will for us.

(pray silently)

Lord, mold and direct us and fill us with your Spirit.

We thank you for the healing of your Holy Spirit.
We ask you to bring reconciliation and wholeness
where there is division, sickness, and sorrow.

(pray silently)

Lord, humble us and fill us with your Spirit.

We thank you for the gifts of your Holy Spirit.
We ask you to equip us for the work you have given us.

(pray silently)

Lord, enable and empower us and fill us with your Spirit.

We thank you for the fruit of your Holy Spirit.
We ask you to reveal in our lives the love of Jesus.

(pray silently)

Lord, redeem and renew us and fill us with your Spirit. Amen.

"Spirit of the Living God"

words: Henry Tweedy

download sheet music

O spirit of the living God, thou light and fire divine
Descend upon thy church once more and make it truly thine
Fill it with love and joy and power, with righteousness and peace
Till Christ shall dwell in human hearts; and sin and sorrow cease

Blow, wind of God, with wisdom blow until our minds are free
From mists of error, clouds of doubt, which blind our eyes to thee
Burn, wingéd fire, inspire our lips with flaming love and zeal
To preach to all thy great good news: God's glorious commonweal

So shall we know the power of Christ, who came this world to save
So shall we rise with him to life which soars beyond the grave
and earth shall win true holiness which makes thy children whole
Till, perfected by thee, we reach creation's glorious goal

Freely you have received; freely give.
(Matthew 10:8)

All we have is given to us by God. Our offerings express this joyful dependence as well as our commitment to join God in his work of renewal. He who met our most dire need through Christ will continue to provide for every need we have— so, whether we have much or little, God calls us to treasure and trust Him above all.

All gifts go toward ministry initiatives of All Souls and relief of those in need.

Be filled with the Holy Spirit,
singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to one another,
making music to the Lord in your hearts.

Give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. (from Ephesians 5:18-20)

Amen.

Let us go forth and serve our world as those who love our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Thanks be to God!
